Oct 02, 2013 · Once there's super glue in the fret slot, you have to use a saw or a pick to clean it out before the new refret. That always causes damage to the wood and widens the slot unnecessarily. If the frets are hide glued, you heat them, the glue acts like a lube again, and the fret comes out easily.

May 24, 2020 · The Fret Slotting Jig is basically a very precise mitre box. What makes it a fret slotting tool is the Fret Guide, which attaches underneath the workpiece with double-sided tape, and engages a pin on the Fret Slotting Jig directly below the saw blade.

The fret slots are next cut using a custom miter box. The slots are cut with a dovetail saw whose kerf is the correct thickness for the frets. Since I use an epoxy fretting method, the kerf is equal to the width of the fret tang plus the barbs on the sides, so the fret will slip into the slot … I drilled a 1/16" hole for the steam needle, right through the fret slot into the cavity at the end of the dovetail joint. In the background you can see my steam generator, an old expresso milk steamer. These things work well for loosening old dovetail joints.
